About the ECI School for Children with Disabilities:
Launched in 2020, theĀ Enabled Children SchoolĀ is a registered private primary school in Kabul, Afghanistan, and is the countryās first school for children with all types of disabilities, including physical, intellectual and/or sensory. The School adapts learning approaches to meet the needs of each student, enabling each child to reach their unique capacity and potential. The Schoolās specialized curriculum uses traditional classroom approaches to teach standard academic subjects, as well as including occupational and physical therapy, sports, art, sign language and life-skills training into our curricula. The school works toward inclusive education, integrating students into mainstream schools, and developing partnerships with those schools to encourage more inclusive learning environments in Kabul. The School is a family-focused learning environment, working closely with families, parents, and caretakers to ensure the best learning outcomes for students, and quality care both at school and in the home.
Job Description:
- Collaborate with the school head psychologist and other members of the school team to support the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students with disabilities.
- Assist in the implementation of evidence-based interventions and strategies to address students’ individual needs, promoting their overall well-being and empowerment.
- Conduct screenings and assessments to gather relevant information about students’ cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning, contributing to the development of comprehensive psychological profiles.
- Support the development and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), providing input and recommendations based on assessment results and observed student behaviors.
- Provide direct assistance and support to students in individual or group settings, focusing on skill development, social-emotional learning, and coping strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers and other school staff to develop and implement behavior management plans, ensuring consistency and continuity across different settings and environments.
- Assist in collecting and analyzing data related to student behavior and progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation to inform decision-making and monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
- Support students in developing and practicing adaptive skills, such as problem-solving, self-regulation, and conflict resolution, fostering independence and autonomy.
- Collaborate with parents/guardians to provide guidance and resources that support their understanding and involvement in their child’s psychological well-being and educational journey.
- Assist in crisis intervention and provide emotional support to students during challenging situations, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Stay informed about current research, best practices, and legal requirements related to the psychological support of students with disabilities, participating in ongoing professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a positive and inclusive school climate, promoting acceptance, understanding, and respect for students with disabilities.
- Collaborate with community resources and external agencies to coordinate additional support services and referrals for students and their families, ensuring a comprehensive approach to meeting their needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions and documentation related to students and their families.
- Undertaking any additional tasks or duties as assigned by the supervisor to contribute to the overall success and effectiveness of the organization.
Job Requirements:
The candidate should meet the following criteria:
- The candidate must have bachelor or master degree in one of the following fields: Psychology, Special Education or Psychology for the education of persons with intellectual disabilities, visual disabilities and hearing disabilities.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities or in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with students.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of students and the classroom environment.
- Basic understanding of special education principles, inclusion, and behavior management techniques.
- Willingness to follow instructions and support the teacher’s guidance.
- Fluency in Dari, Pashto and English.
