Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser says the government needs at least two years to deliver on its promise to relocate 40,000 Afghan refugees to Canada.
“The Canadian government is currently facing challenges in Afghanistan and other countries where asylum seekers have gone, but is trying to relocate them to Canada as soon as possible,” he said.
Sean Fraser, however, said the two-year timetable was an “estimate” and that hundreds of Afghan refugees arrived in Canada each week.
Hundreds of Afghan refugees arrive in Canada every week, Canadian Immigration Minister Sean Fraser told reporters in Ottawa, according to the Canada Press.
Criticizing Canada’s cumbersome bureaucracy, the NDM called on Tristan Trudeau’s government to speed up the reception of Afghan refugees in the face of Taliban threats.
The Government of Canada has previously announced that 40,000 Afghan refugees, including journalists, civil society, minorities, and vulnerable groups, will be granted citizenship.
